Our bodies communicate to us clearly and specifically, if we are willing to listen to them.

What is Traditional Chinese Medicine?

Traditional Chinese Medicine
(TCM) is a complete system of healing that dates back to 200 B.C. in written form.  It integrates several therapies to treat a wide variety of medical conditions.  Of these therapies, Acupuncture and Chinese Herbology are the most popular in the US.  Some additional therapies that Axis utilizes are:  moxabustion (heat), cupping (suction), mild electrical or laser stimulation, diet, nutrition and lifestyle counseling, Tai Chi and Qi Gong (physical exercise), Tui Na and accupressure (manual therapies).

TCM is largely based on the philosophical concept that the human body is a small universe with a set of complete and sophisticated interconnected systems.  Those systems usually work in balance to maintain the healthy function of the human body.

What is Acupuncture?
Acupuncture is proven to remedy acute or chronic ailments, relieve pain, enhance recuperative powers and strengthen the immune system.  Studies have clearly documented acupuncture's effects, but they have not been able to fully explain how acupuncture works within the framework of the Western system of medicine.

Extremely fine, hair-thin, single-use, sterile needles are placed at specific acupuncture points on the body.  When the needles are inserted, you may experience a sensation of tingling, slight pressure or warmth.  Treatments are typically quite relaxing, and many patients fall asleep.  The number and frequency of treatments vary for each individual simply because we are all unique individuals.

What is Chinese Herbology?
Herbology is the art of combining medicinal herbs.  Chinese herbal therapy is a gentle, safe and effective way to prompt your system to reach its desired state of balance and good health.

Herbology is one of the more important modalities utilized in TCM.  At Axis, each herbal medicine prescription is a formula of several herbs carefully tailored to the individual patient.  We only use herbs from suppliers we trust and who guarantee the potency and safety of their product.
